Finnish company Boomeranger Boats has received a contract to supply sea boats for the Royal Australian Navy’s Arafura-class offshore patrol vessels (OPVs).
Boomeranger is required to deliver two davit-launched 8.5m-long fast rescue boats and one 10.5m-long ramp-launched special operations boat for each of the OPVs.

Both models to be delivered under the contract are rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs) equipped with inboard engines.
The contact will see the company provide a total of 41 RHIBs over a period of ten years.
The firm will deliver the first of the boats to support the acceptance of the first OPV in 2021.
The boats will support the OPVs in constabulary missions, maritime patrol and response operations.

By GlobalDataBoomeranger said in a statement: “Both of the sea boats models are existing designs from earlier projects delivered by Boomeranger.
“The 10.5m-long sea boat is an enhanced variant of the ramp-launched RHIB of the original Luerssen OPV delivered to the Royal Brunei Navy.”
Luerssen Australia, the subsidiary of German shipbuilder Lürssen, is building the Arafura-class vessels in partnership with Civmec.
The company is the prime contractor for the project and has the responsibility of overseeing the design and construction of the vessels.
A total of 12 OPVs are being built under the SEA 1180 Phase 1 OPV programme, which seeks to replace 13 Armidale-class patrol boats.
ASC is the preferred shipbuilder for the first two vessels in the project. The keel for the first Arafura-class OPV for the Australian Navy was laid in May at the Osborne Naval Shipyard.
The remaining ten vessels will be built at Civmec’s Henderson shipyard in Western Australia.
