Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) has been awarded an Office of Naval Research (ONR) contract to deliver an armoured reconnaissance vehicle (ARV) technology demonstrator.
The company will deliver the advanced, high-technology demonstrator for the ONR and the US Marine Corps (USMC).

The contract has a potential value of $20.5m, including all options.
SAIC Defense Systems Group executive vice-president and general manager Jim Scanlon said: “This state-of-the-art ground vehicle development programme leverages our strengths and aligns well with our current strategy.
“As a technology integrator with expertise and capabilities in leveraging open architecture and advanced technologies, SAIC is ready to deliver the best options for the Marine Corps’ requirements on this new reconnaissance combat vehicle.”

By GlobalDataThe vehicle will be able to meet the USMC’s capability demands to sense, shoot, move and communicate. It should also be transportable as part of the naval expeditionary force.
In addition, the ARV technology demonstrator will feature self-healing, cyber-secure power and information distribution architectures. It will also deliver an integrated unmanned aerial vehicle capability.
The demonstrator will have modular electronics packages to enable plug and play and will support options such as the ability to integrate with technologies like robotics and artificial intelligence.
SAIC noted that the demonstrator will provide cross-country and water mobility.
The company’s ARV demonstrator will be designed to deliver passive and active force protection, as well as a drive-by-wire capability.
Planned to be delivered in October next year, the vehicle will provide kinetic and non-kinetic direct fires.
SAIC said in a statement: “In short, it will show the full spectrum of possible, 5th generation/21st-Century warfighting survivability and capability.”
