"We are pleased that the US Navy and Coast Guard continue to trust Saab to deliver world-leading sensor performance and total situational awareness."

These capabilities enable the radar to consistently deliver the highest possible performance across a wide range of maritime environments and mission scenarios.

Saab Surveillance Business Area senior vice-president and head Anders Carp said: “Variants of the Sea Giraffe AMB are currently included in four separate US military and homeland security programmes.

“We are pleased that the US Navy and Coast Guard continue to trust Saab to deliver world-leading sensor performance and total situational awareness, even in the most challenging maritime environments.”

Delivery of the contracted systems is currently slated to be carried out next year.

Work under the project will be conducted at Saab’s facilities in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Syracuse, New York, US.

Saab previously received an initial order for MMR systems for integration on-board the OPC units from the US Navy last year.

Saab’s Sea Giraffe AMB radar, designated AN/SPS-77 in the US, is currently deployed on the US Navy’s Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS).

A derivative of AN/SPS-77, known as AN/SPN-50, is also being built by the company to address the US Naval Air Systems Command’s (NAVAIR) shipboard air traffic control requirements.
