Naval Group has released expressions of interest (EOI) and requests for information (RFI) to support the involvement of Australian industry in the country’s $50bn Future Submarines programme.
Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne said that the Australian Government is committed to developing a sovereign naval shipbuilding capability, which would include 12 submarines for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

The vessels are slated to be built indigenously by local shipbuilders, thereby optimising local industry involvement throughout all phases of the naval programme.
Naval Group has pre-qualified almost 130 Australian companies to be part of the Future Submarines programme to date.
Pyne said: “Naval Group continues to support the Turnbull Government in this endeavour and is looking to Australian industry to manufacture and supply critical equipment and other common technologies for the submarines.”
“Opportunities exist for the Australian industry to provide everything from electrical, mechanical, heating and air-conditioning equipment, to castings, steel and titanium products.”

The latest announcement represents the first major requests for equipment information to be released by Naval Group in support of the project, and additional requests are slated to be released progressively throughout next year.
Pyne further added that the involvement of the Australian industry in the Future Submarine project is expected to create an average of approximately 2,800 job opportunities each year over the entire lifetime of the programme.
