The US Navy has awarded a $40m contract to security solutions provider Mobile Armor to provide data security software to protect the navy’s data at rest.

Under the contract Mobile Armor will provide centralised policy management and data protection solutions in addition to its software and also includes maintenance, training and other support programmes.

Data at rest are files stored on the hard drive of a notebook computer, files on an external backup medium, files on the servers of a storage area network or files on the servers of an offsite backup service provider.

The US Department of Defense data-at-rest Tiger team, which provides data-at-rest encryption solutions for mobile computing devices and removable storage media, has selected Mobile Armor to accomplish the task order.
