The 510ft warship was named after marine corporal Jason L Dunham, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for service in Iraq.
The warship was built by Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine.
Commissioned on 4 July 1991, the USS Arleigh Burke combat capability centres around the Aegis Weapon System which is composed of the SPY-1D multi-function phased array radar, advanced anti-aircraft warfare and anti-submarine warfare systems, vertical launching system, and the Tomahawk Weapon System.
The ship is capable of achieving more than 30kt in open seas by employing four General Electric LM 2500 gas turbines to produce 100,000 total shaft horsepower via a dual shaft design.
