General Dynamics’ Advanced Information Systems division is set to upgrade the US Navy’s Submarine Tactical Control System, as part of the AN/BYG-1 Submarine Combat System contract.

Under the contract, the company will develop commercial-off-the-shelf software and hardware to provide integrated tactical control capabilities for multiple submarine classes.

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems president Lou Von Thaer said the company will continue to provide increased tactical control capability at lower cost, while encouraging third-party participation in developing affordable combat system enhancements across a number of naval platforms.

The contract runs through to July 2018 and has a value of $21.3m for the first year.

The work will be carried out in Fairfax, Virginia, and Middletown, Rhode Island.
