The US Navy has awarded two contracts valued at $22m to provide maintenance and supply services for naval aircraft including the F/A-18 Hornet and T-45A Goshawk trainer aircraft.

Under a $14.9m contract Boeing’s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) will provide engineering, maintenance and parts support of F/A-18 flight test programmes at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, Maryland.

In addition, IDS will supply 36 mission display processor aircraft retrofit kits for the T-45 Goshawk trainer aircraft under a more than $7.6m delivery order.

The F/A-18 Hornet is an all-weather carrier-capable multirole fighter jet, designed to attack both ground and aerial targets. Maintenance work on the aircraft is expected to be complete in September 2010.

The T-45 is a tandem-seat, lightweight, single-engine aircraft modified for aircraft carrier operations. It incorporates on-board oxygen-generating system, a head-up display and a weapons delivery capability for training.

Work for the retrofit kits will be carried out in St Louis and is expected to be completed in November 2011.
