The US Navy has awarded a contract to CPI International subsidiary, Communications & Power Industries to support Aegis weapons system aboard navy vessels.

Under the $4.9m one-year contract, the company will provide travelling wave tubes (TWTs) to support the AN/SPY-1D (V) radar system on the Aegis weapons system.

The TWT is a high-gain, low-noise, wide-bandwidth microwave amplifier, which is capable of gains greater than 40dB with bandwidths exceeding an octave.

The AN/SPY-1 radar system has been installed on the US Navy’s Ticonderoga Class cruisers and DDG-51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. The radar system is designed to operate in high clutter, near-coast environments.

Work will be carried out at CPI’s facilities in California and the contract has been awarded by the Naval Inventory Control Point in Pennsylvania.
