Navantia will build eight vessels and four Economic Zone offshore patrol boats (POVZEE) for the Venezuelan Navy as part of the Venezuelan Naval Mission in Spain that was established in 2006
The POVZEE vessels are designed to execute a wide range of missions including surveillance and protection of the exclusive economic zone, search and rescue, drug trafficking, and surveillance and information-gathering for operational or environmental intelligence.
The POVZEE vessel has a displacement capacity of 2,419t and can sail at a maximum speed of 24kt.
Deliveries for the entire contract are scheduled between late 2009 and late 2011.
