The Russian Navy said its entire naval infantry will be fully re-armed with advanced weaponry by 2015.

The naval infantry will receive T-90 tanks, BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles and BTR-82A armoured personnel carriers.

In addition, a number of BRDM-3 armoured reconnaissance vehicles, 120mm 2C31 Vena self-propelled guns, modernised air defence systems and small arms will also be procured.

The naval infantry consists of 12,000 personnel from three brigades, two independent regiments and two independent battalions.

Russia’s naval infantry from the Pacific Fleet participates in Russia’s anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden.
