The US Navy has awarded a contract to NanoMech to development a new, nanostructured lubricant additive to improve energy efficiency of naval components.

NanoMech’s proprietary NanoGlide is a unique multicomponent, extreme-pressure nanoparticle-based additive that originated from nano-manufacturing research at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

The technology enables the navy to increase durability and improve energy efficiency of naval components and systems.

A lubricant industry expert Neil Canter said NanoMech’s development of the product marks a significant improvement in performance by an environmentally sustainable additive that can save energy.

“The combination of solid lubricant nanoparticles with environmentally friendly organic additives provides a unique set of properties that are not matched by any additive commercially available today,” he said.
