The Nanggala is a 209/1300-type submarine and was used for joint practices with the US in 2002 and 2004.
The 1,395t submarine accommodates 34 crew and can cruise at a maximum speed of 21.5kt.
In addition, the submarine is equipped with a low-speed, Siemens electrical ship generator that can distribute direct power through a shaft to the submarine’s propellers.
The submarine will undergo missions including tactical and strategic reconnaissance, surface and subsurface warfare as well as special forces infiltration and blockade.
