The Indian Navy’s offshore patrol vessel (OPV) INS Savitri has successfully completed surveillance and anti-piracy missions in waters off Mauritius and the Seychelles and returned to its home port.

During the month-long deployment, the Sukanya Class OPV operated in close coordination with ships and aircraft of Seychelles Coast Guard and the Mauritian National Coast Guard and carried out surveillance and anti-piracy patrols.

The ship’s crew also trained Mauritian marine commandos on how to undertake operations at sea and shared information with two helicopter pilots of the Mauritian Police Helicopter Squadron in deck landing on board the ship at sea.

INS Savitri with a Chetak helicopter and Marine Commandos effectively sanitised far-flung sea areas of the Mauritian Exclusive Economic Zone, beyond the reach of Mauritian surveillance assets, according to Indian Navy officials.
