South Korea will receive the first of four CN-235 maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) from PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) by the end of 2010.

PTDI chief spokesman Rokhendi said four CN-235 MPAs were currently under construction by PTDI to meet the South Korean order.

“One of the planes will be handed over to South Korea by the end of 2010,” he said.

“The four aircraft were ordered by South Korea under a contract signed in 2008 at a total cost of $94.5m. The production of the aircraft will be complete in 2012, but the planes will be handed over to South Korea in stages.”

The CN-235 patrol aircraft will be equipped with radar to detect ships, anti-submarine torpedoes and other special arms. They are intended for the South Korean Navy’s maritime operations.

PTDI also received contracts for three CN-235 maritime patrol aircraft from the Indonesian Navy in December 2009.
