Under the $27.2m contract AMSEA will provide a wide range of operations and maintenance services including crewing, engineering, maintenance, procurement and provisioning for seven large, medium-speed, roll-on / roll-off (LMSR) vessels.
LMSRs can carry an entire US Army task force, including 58 tanks and 48 other tracked vehicles, as well as more than 900 trucks and other wheeled vehicles.
The vessels can accommodate a crew of approximately 30 civilian mariners.
The LMSR vessels have been the primary movers of US military equipment during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
