The Russian Navy’s missile cruisers have successfully completed joint exercises in the South China Sea.

Russian Navy Captain First Class Sergei Zhuga said that the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky and the guided-missile cruiser Moskva had completed the joint transition phase, according to Rianovosti.

“The exercise included conjunctive navigation, manoeuvring by flagship signal, joint use of weapons, air defence exercises, towing a damaged ship and the transmission of naval helicopter flights from ship to ship,” he said.

The Moskva is the flagship of the Russian Black Sea fleet and the Pyotr Veliky battlecruiser is the flagship of the navy’s northern fleet.

The cruisers are scheduled to participate in the Vostok-2010 large-scale strategic exercise at the Russian Far Eastern port of Vladivostok in June-July.
