The Pakistani Navy has inducted two modified P3C Orion maritime surveillance aircraft at Mehran Naval Base.

Chief of naval staff Admiral Noman Bashir said the induction of the aircraft, which were acquired from the US, would increase the capability of the Pakistani Navy and its aviation wing.

The fully modified aircraft are ready to undergo maritime operations including anti-submarine and surveillance missions, according to Bashir.

The chief also said the Pakistani Navy would receive a frigate by the end of August after the completion of its refurbishment and induct the vessel in January 2011.

The four-engine turboprop aircraft features advanced submarine detection sensors including directional frequency and ranging sonobuoys, and magnetic anomaly detection equipment.
