Argentina will build nuclear-powered vessels for its navy, according to the country’s defence minister Nilda Garre.

Garre said the vessels should be built with Argentine technology, according to the Wall Street Journal.

State nuclear-technology firm Invap will provide the atomic expertise for the construction of vessels, which is expected to be carried out at the Tandanor shipyard in Buenos Aires.

Current defence projects in Argentina include the development of the Gradicom PCX missile that has been successfully tested, the refurbishing of the medium Argentine tanks with French technology and the development of nuclear powered vessels for the navy.
