The US Navy’s amphibious transport dock, USS New Orleans, has arrived in Mexico to participate in Southern Partnership Station (SPS) 2010.

During the three-month deployment, the San Antonio Class amphibious vessel will visit ports in Peru, Columbia, Argentina, Brazil and Panama while carrying out training sessions with the partner teams.

USS New Orleans will also provide deterrence, promote peace and security, and provide humanitarian and disaster response within the Eastern Pacific.

SPS is an annual deployment of US military training teams to the US Southern Command area of focus in the Caribbean and Latin America.

The mission aims to provide training to navies, coastguards and civilian services throughout the region.
