Northrop Grumman has successfully carried out live outdoor tests for its Naval S-band radar testbed at the company’s Linthicum test range in Maryland, US.

During the tests, Northrop successfully demonstrated key advanced S-band radar technologies, including distributed receivers and digital beam forming by testing tracking aircraft and other targets with the S-band radar testbed.

The S-band radar intends to provide the US Navy with significantly enhanced capabilities to detect, track and engage ballistic missiles while performing anti-air warfare.

Northrop has also successfully tested the latest ballistic missile defence T/R modules, a key technology to meet the air and missile defence radar (AMDR) programme.

AMDR is the future-generation radar system that will be inducted in the US Navy’s future surface combatant platform.
