PCL Construction will upgrade the Syncrolift system and construct a submarine maintenance facility at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax under a contract awarded by the Canadian Government.

Under the $28.1m contract, PCL will upgrade the electrical and mechanical mounts of the current jetty to support docking work periods on the Syncrolift.

Construction of the new permanent submarine facility at CFB Halifax will enable the Cape Scott fleet maintenance facility to maintain two vessels at a time.

PCL will also replace the associated support structures, transfer systems and the electrical control system of the inshore winches.

Canadian Defence Minister Peter MacKay said the contract was part of the Canada First Defence Strategy to protect Canadian interests at home and abroad.
