The US Navy has awarded a contract to Lockheed Martin to provide engineering support services for the navy’s AN/BVY-1 integrated submarine imaging system (ISIS).

Under the $97.1m contract, the company will provide services including design, development, testing, reverse engineering, technology insertion, field engineering services and system support for ISIS.

ISIS provides all US Navy submarines with mission critical, all-weather, visual and electronic search, digital image management, indication, warning, and platform architecture interface capabilities.

The system enhances the existing components and capabilities of the vessels and provides a robust architecture that is flexible to adopt future capabilities.

The US Navy submarines that are equipped with ISIS include the Los Angeles, Seawolf, SSGN Ohio, Virginia and Trident Class submarines.

Work will be carried out at the company’s facilities across the US and is expected to be complete by July 2011.

The contract has been awarded by the US Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, DC.
