India has agreed to supply two Chetak helicopters and a Dornier maritime reconnaissance aircraft to the Seychelles for surveillance and anti-piracy missions in the Indian Ocean region.
Indian Defence minister AK Antony said the Indian Navy would make more visits to the Seychelles to help the country carry out exclusive economic zone surveillance and hydrographic survey in the region.
“During these visits, Seychellois personnel can embark on board the Indian Navy Ships for maintenance training and conduct drills and exercises,” he said.
In addition, India has announced a $5m assistance for defence-related projects for Seychelles.
The two Chetak helicopters and a new Dornier from Hindustan Aeronautics are expected to be delivered within two years.
