The Danish Navy’s Lynx helicopter service control has been transferred from the navy to the air force as per the government’s 2010-2014 defence settlement.

The handover implies that eight Lynx helicopters previously used by the Danish Navy Helicopter Corps will form a new air force unit, Esk 723, based at Karup.

The Lynx, however, will still continue to serve along with navy ships in waters off Greenland to the coast of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden.

Denmark is considering the MH-60R Seahawk, AW159 Wildcat, NH90, H-92 Cyclone and AW101 aircraft to meet the requirements of its maritime helicopter programme (MHP).

The Danish Navy contributes to Nato’s Operation Ocean Shield anti-piracy actions, according to the Shephard.
