Iran is preparing to start designing and manufacturing a new generation of destroyers, Iranian Navy deputy commander Rear Admiral Gholamreza Khadem Beigham has said.

“The assembly line for the production of missile-launching frigates with advanced systems and modern features have been set up,” he added.

Khadem emphasised that more durable surface and sub-surface fleets were required for longer missions in international waters.

Last year, the Iranian Navy unveiled the Jamaran destroyer, equipped with modern radars and advanced electronic warfare capabilities.

Jamaran is a multimission destroyer capable of carrying 120-140 people, armed with a variety of surface-to-air missiles.
