The 98m-long ship with a displacement capacity of 1,700t has been constructed entirely on land at Vlissingen-East and will be completed at the Vlissingen City shipyard.
The Sigma Class frigates will be extended versions of the existing Sigma-type ships and will be armed with MBDA-supplied MM40 Exocet surface-to-surface missiles and an Oto Melara 76mm main gun.
DSNS is currently building three Sigma Class frigates in Vlissingen for the Moroccan Navy as part of the navy’s plans to modernise its fleet and extend its patrol capabilities.
The first 105m frigate was launched in July 2010 and the third frigate, 98m in length, is planned to be launched at the end of this year.
