The UK Royal Navy is planning to purchase a fleet of its own maritime patrol aircraft to detect and track enemy submarines.
The new £1bn aircraft are expected to replace the Royal Air Force’s new Nimrod MRA4 aircraft, which were scrapped by the UK Ministry of Defence at a cost of £3.6bn as part of the Government’s strategic defence review cuts announced last year.
