Northrop has been awarded a modification contract by the US Naval Air Systems Command for the manufacture and delivery of four low-rate initial production lot 4 E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft.

The $94.6m modification contract is to definitise a previously awarded advance acquisition contract at a fixed-price.

The E-2 Hawkeye is a twin-turboprop all-weather, aircraft carrier-capable tactical airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft.

The multimission platform command and control capability of the aircraft allows it to coordinate concurrent missions that could arise during a single flight.

Work will be carried out at the company’s facilities in France and at various locations within the US, and is expected to be completed by December 2011.
