BAE Systems has been subcontracted by General Dynamics (GD) to provide external communications and primary gun systems for the ten US Navy Independence variant Austal-built littoral combat ships (LCS).
The company will design, install, integrate and test various communications systems including radio and antenna systems, baseband switching systems and associated cabinets, and other specialised equipment and hardware.

By GlobalDataBAE will also provide six-mode 57mm mk110 gun systems, which will be jointly installed and integrated by GD Advanced Information Systems and GD Armament and Technical Products.
Work on the communications systems will be performed at the company’s facility in California, Maryland and at Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama, US.
The production of the gun systems will be conducted at the company’s facilities in Louisville, Kentucky, Minneapolis and Minnesota, US, and Karlskoga, Sweden and is expected to run through 2017.
The company is also building and installing primary gun systems on ten Lockheed-built littoral combat ships.
