The Iranian Navy has plans to increase the range of missile systems to boost the nation’s deterrence power, Iran Navy deputy commander Admiral Gholamreza Khadem Bigham has said.

“The range of missile systems, especially the ones that are positioned in the coastal areas and even the range of the missile systems installed on naval vessels will be increased,” the Islamic Republic News Agency quoted the Iranian minister as saying.

“Based on possible enemy threats, increasing the range of these missiles has been carried out by Iran’s committed experts, especially with the cooperation of Iran’s Defence Ministry,” he added.

The Defence Ministry recently test fired an air-defence missile system, the mid-range, surface-to-air Hawk missile and also delivered new cruise missile systems to the navy.
