Lockheed Martin has been selected by the US Navy for a $758m indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity contract to provide submarine combat and sonar systems upgrade.

Under the contract, the company will provide technology upgrade based on commercially available hardware and software.

The US Navy technology insertion hardware programme includes design, development and production of hardware for the next two submarine technology insertions.

The technology insertions have been planned for Seawolf, SSGN, 688/688i, Virginia Class, and future submarine systems and platforms.

The subcontractors for the production of hardware include DRS Technologies and Progeny Systems.

The Royal Australian Navy will also be provided with similar technology insertions for the Collins Class submarines through the US foreign military sales programme.
