The Indian Navy has awarded a Rs9.7bn ($213.58m) order to ABG Shipyard for the construction of two cadet training ships.

The 100m-long ship, with a cruising speed of 29kt, will be designed with the capability to carry light helicopters.

The two ships will be used for providing basic training to the naval cadets and trainees and carrying out disaster relief, and search and rescue operations.

Construction will be carried out at the company’s Dahej and Surat shipyards in India.
