The Spanish Navy first Buque de Acción Marítima (BAM) amphibious action ship, Meteoro, has successfully completed sea trials.

During the final trials, the ship’s navigation and combat systems were tested and its noise levels were evaluated.

The 93.9m-long Meteoro, launched on 16 October 2009, is a medium-sized vessel with a full load displacement of 2,575t and a cruising speed of 20.5kt.

The ship has been designed for escort and protection of other ships, maritime traffic monitoring, anti-terrorism, counterpiracy, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance, as well as enforcement of fisheries, environmental and anti-pollution regulations.

The ship will be commissioned into service on 28 July.
