The Indian Navy will receive a Russian Schucka-B Class nuclear attack submarine, the K-152 Nerpa, by the end of August, after the completion of trials.

The officials of Amur Shipyard, the manufacturer of the Nerpa, said, “Rhe Indian crew is giving a kind of proficiency test to the Russian experts.”

“After the completion of trials in the end of August, the process of the transfer of the nuclear submarine to the Indian Navy will commence,” state-run ITAR-TASS news agency quotes officials as saying.

The Nerpa vessel, which is currently undergoing trials in the Sea of Japan, has been acquired under a ten-year lease from Russia and will be commissioned into the Indian Navy as INS Chakra.
