LVSR tractor variant

The US Marine Corps has awarded a modification contract to Oshkosh to supply more than 140 logistics vehicle system replacement (LVSR) cargo trucks and nearly 70 LVSR tractors.

The LVSR features an on-road payload capacity of 22.5 tons and an off-road payload capacity of 16.5 tons, and complements the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) fleet.

Oshkosh Defense Joint and Marine Corps Programs vice president and general manager John Bryant said: "The LVSR’s advanced design allows it to accept protection upgrades and perform missions that are above and beyond what the original vehicle requirements called for."

The vehicle incorporates technology that provides on-board diagnostics information and integrated armour for superior protection, allowing US Marines to navigate through challenging off-road terrain.

The USMC heavy fleet vehicle system is used for transporting heavy bulk and break bulk cargo, bulk liquids, and ammunition. It has been designed to perform sophisticated logistics missions, which often require Marines to travel off-road in harsh environments.

Additional features include a TAK-4 independent suspension system for off-road mobility in extremely severe landscapes.

The truck is available in three variants; cargo, wrecker and tractor. The cargo variant is used to transport a range of supplies and materials, including ammunition, fuel containers, bridging equipment, flatracks and ISO containers, while the tractor variant is designed to haul combat vehicles, semi-trailers and other equipment.

First fielded in Afghanistan in 2009, the LVSR has been proven as the Marines’ new heavy-payload platform, delivering improvements in mobility, protection and performance.

Work under the $94m contract is scheduled to complete in September 2013.
