It will run for five years and includes a one-year base period with four additional one-year option periods. As part of this, ESN will provide life cycle maintenance and modernisation services for Nimitz class (CVN-68) and Ford class (CVN-78) aircraft carriers.

The scope of work involves engineering, maintenance planning, cybersecurity, information assurance, and administrative tasks which will enable the US Navy to oversee the planning and execution of long-term upgrades and maintenance for its aircraft carriers.

In addition, ESN will be responsible for collecting, managing, and analysing maintenance and modernisation data across Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) systems, cyber components, and C5ISR systems, which include Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance.

The majority of these activities are set to take place in Norfolk, Virginia and are scheduled to start immediately.

ESN CEO Raymond F. Lopez Jr. said: “ESN is honoured to continue supporting the US Navy’s aircraft carrier enterprise. Aircraft carriers remain the cornerstone of America’s maritime power projection.

“We are proud to provide the engineering, planning, cybersecurity, and modernisation capabilities that help ensure these vital platforms stay mission-ready and capable of meeting evolving operational demands.”

This contract comes after, the US Navy granted Huntington Ingalls Industries a cost-plus-fixed-fee contract worth up to $471.9m for engineering, technical, and design support for Nimitz-class and Gerald R. Ford-class carriers.

This agreement covers logistics, configuration and database management, modernisation, and the development of ship change documents for these naval vessels.

The US Navy currently operates a fleet of 10 Nimitz-class and one Ford-class aircraft carrier. Both classes are built by HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding.
