Kestrel Weather & Environmental Meters has won a supply contract from the US Marine Corps (USMC) System Command to supply the material solution for its Scout sniper ballistic computers (SSBC) programme.

Under the contract, the company will supply 887 Kestrel 4500 meters units, capable of combining accurate wind, direction, temperature, pressure, and humidity readings, with a built-in advanced ballistics calculator and bullet performance database.

The 4oz, hand-held meter will provide elevation and wind holds for the precise weapon, round, and target characteristics, which will allow the shooter to put first shots on target at 1,000 yards and beyond.

Kestrel Weather & Environmental Meters manufacturer Nielsen-Kellerman CEO Alix James said: "Kestrel has proudly supported Marine Corps Scout Snipers with rugged environmental meters for more than 15 years, starting with the original Kestrel 4000 Weather Tracker, through to the Kestrel 4500 with applied ballistics selected on this contract.

The Kestrel meters will be supplied in a complete field support kit containing Kestrel 4000 series screen protection kit, Pelican 1015 black case, and Mystery Ranch Molle soft case.

Kestrel said that its weather meters are designed and built in Pennsylvania and the devices under the present contract will be supplied by its long-time authorised Kestrel resale partner, ADS.

ADS is a primary vendor under the Defense Supply Center Special Operations Tailored Logistics Support (TLS) programme.
