The US Navy has awarded a $11.4m contract to defence electronics company Elbit Systems to supply 100W power amplifiers for the navy’s digital modular radio (DMR) programme.

The DMR is a compact, multichannel standard software-defined radio that provides multiple waveforms and multilevel information security for voice and data communications.

Under the five-year contract, the company will manufacture the 100W power amplifiers for DMRs which are currently being operated aboard all US Navy surface and subsurface vessels.

Work will be carried out at the company’s facility in Florida and is expected to be complete by September 2014.
