BAE Systems has been awarded a contract to manufacture mk41 vertical launching system (VLS) mechanical components and assemblies for the US Navy.

Under the $55m contract, the mk41 VLS will be provided for the CG47 surface combatants, and Aegis ashore requirements for the Missile Defense Agency’s ground ballistic missile defence programme.

Two launchers will be installed on three different Arleigh Burke Class guided missile destroyers that include DDG 113, 114 and 115.

The mk41 is a missile launching system that provides offensive and defensive capabilities to naval surface combatants to store, protect and launch various missiles.
