DRS Defense has been awarded a firm, fixed-price contract by the US Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) for the production of a number of gigabit ethernet multiplex system (GEDMS) shipsets.

The $10.2m contract was initially funded at $6.8m and includes options which, if exercised, have a cumulative value of $20m.

Under the contract, DRS will supply multiple GEDMS systems for new and in-service Arleigh Burke Class (DDG-51) destroyers, GEDMS hardware for Wasp Class (LHD 1) and for the AN/SPA-25 radar programme.

The contract also has options for a foreign military sale land-based test site (LBTS), associated installation and checkout repairs, and Whidbey Island Class (LSD 41) ships.
