This move signifies the first international deployment of a vessel under Zero USV’s franchise model and represents a milestone for the company in extending its high-endurance, over-the-horizon uncrewed capabilities to the North American market.

Leeway Marine, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has been granted exclusive rights as the first international franchisee of Zero USV to charter the Oceanus12 within Canada and surrounding areas.

The vessel is designed for long autonomous operations and equipped with a hybrid-electric twin propulsion system.

It also incorporates advanced autonomy software developed by Marine AI, making it adaptable for a variety of missions including defence, surveying, and border security.

Zero USV founder Matthew Ratsey said: “We’re proud to see ASV Viper heading into service, particularly with Leeway Marine, who have deep operational experience and knowledge, making them the ideal partner to take Zero USV to North America.

“This is a meaningful step in our global expansion, and one that shows the increasing demand for high-performance, uncrewed platforms that don’t rely on costly ownership models.”

ASV Viper is scheduled to commence operational trials in Canadian waters later in 2025, where it will become the first autonomous vessels of its kind designed for extended maritime operations without a crew, said the company.

Zero USV provides customers with immediate access to autonomous capabilities through a charter service, backed by its remote observation centre.
