The US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mitscher (DDG 57) is set to undergo the docking selected restricted availability (DSRA) programme.
The maintenance and modernisation contract was awarded to BAE Systems.

The $1.9m competitively awarded contract comes with options, which if exercised would take its value to $101.2m.
BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair vice-president and general manager Mike Bruneau said: “Our team looks forward to the preservation and upgrade work aboard USS Mitscher.
“With our subcontractor teammates and navy personnel alongside, we will apply our experience with the DDG class to ensure this ship returns to the fleet mission-ready and fully capable to support our national security.”
The destroyer’s DSRA programme will involve carrying out underwater hull preservation work and modernisation of the vessel’s Aegis combat system and command and control equipment.

By GlobalDataThe dry-docked ship will also see its living spaces for 285 crewmembers being refurbished.
Work under the contract is anticipated to commence this March. It will be completed in April next year.
The company is currently carrying out DSRA on the guided-missile destroyer USS Stout (DDG 55) at its Norfolk shipyard.
USS Mitscher was named after Admiral Marc Mitscher, who served the navy’s Fast Carrier Task Force 58 in the Pacific.
The vessel, which was commissioned in December 1994, is the second US Navy ship to bear the name.
