Cubic will work in partnership with Comtech Telecommunications to deliver the contract.

Comtech is the subcontractor for the NGT programme. In addition to delivering the systems, Cubic is required to provide test support, training execution, logistics, fielding support and sustainment.

Cubic Mission Solutions GATR vice-president and general manager Roark McDonald said: “The ability to communicate in today’s congested and contested battlespace is critical to saving marines’ lives and staying one step ahead of the enemy.

“The NGT is one more tool now available to provide high-capacity and highly reliable communications.”

The partners will deliver a mobile and high throughput beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) system.

The NGT solution will enable an increase in bandwidth and reduction in the size, weight and power (SWaP).

Comtech Systems president Rich Luhrs said: “Comtech continues its commitment to providing the most advance communications technology available anywhere in the world. The NGT team will provide the marines with superior communications capability for its warfighters.”

A troposcatter system is a point-to-point link that involves a terminal on each end. The NGT can process BLOS microwave signals.

The GATR antennas are capable of sending and receiving microwave signals up to 200 miles without satellite communication technology.

Troposcatter communication systems allow troops to establish a communications capability in areas that do not have access to a trusted source of SATCOM coverage.

Cubic expects to deliver the first NGT units to the USMC by the end of next year.
