Under the five-year follow-on contract, which is valued at around $49m, Serco will continue providing repair and overhauls to the SubHDR Antenna Pedestal Group (APG).

The scope will also include providing evaluation and repair services to related sub-components.

The contract work will be delivered in support of a mission-critical system that enables the US Navy submarine fleet to send and receive key information.

The system supports the exchange of voice and data traffic, wide-band communications, imagery and video teleconferencing.

Serco chairman and CEO Dave Dacquino said: “This was a key recompete win for our business and we are proud to have the opportunity to continue delivering systems engineering services to the navy through this contract vehicle.

“With many of the satellite communications (SATCOM) and radar systems both on ships and shore requiring maintenance and repairs, our teams are hard at work delivering sustainment and obsolescence engineering services that enable customers to extend the lives of existing systems.”

The company will deliver the majority of work under the contract out of its production and repair facility in Ludlow, Massachusetts.

The request for proposal for the contract was issued in April.

Raytheon provides multi-band satellite communication (SATCOM) systems to the US Navy.

The Sub HDR links submariners to the above-sea world and provides high data rate, multi-band SATCOM capability.
