Finnish shipbuilder Uudenkaupungin Työvene has won a contract from the German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) for the design and construction of a new personnel transfer vessel (PTV).
The vessel is intended to assist German Navy activities in the Baltic Sea.

According to Työvene, the PTV will operate out of Neustadt in Holstein, facilitating the transfer of personnel from the naval harbour to larger naval ships working offshore.
The new PTV will use Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) technology, a hull configuration designed to provide greater stability and seakeeping than traditional designs.
The vessel will have capacity for up to 60 personnel and is intended for personnel transport and ship-to-ship transfer operations at sea.
A specialised access and transfer system will be included on board, allowing personnel and crew members to embark and disembark safely between the transfer vessel and larger naval ships during operations at sea.
Työvene plans to construct the vessel at its Uusikaupunki facility in Finland, with delivery to the German Navy expected this year after all building, testing, and sea trial phases are completed.
Through this project, Työvene continues its work supplying aluminium workboats and mission-specific vessels designed for governmental and naval customers.
