Triumph Group has delivered the first ramp and related door structures for the V-22 Osprey multi-mission tiltrotor aircraft.

Structures are produced at from Triumph Aerospace Structures Composites Center of Excellence in Milledgeville, Georgia, were delivered to Boeing Philadelphia under a contract with Boeing Defense, Space & Security.

Triumph is manufacturing the ramp and ramp door structures under a renewed statement of work for the V-22 programme.

In addition, the Milledgeville facility produces fuselage structures for the V-22 aircraft. These components include sponsons, wiper fairings and main landing gear doors.

Triumph Aerospace Structures executive vice-president Pete Wick said: “For more than 20 years Triumph’s Milledgeville site has provided composite structures for the V-22 programme.

“We are pleased to expand our scope of work on this very important platform used across multiple branches of the US Armed Forces.”

The company is contracted to deliver 60 composite ramp and ramp door assemblies to the Boeing Philadelphia facility.

Following delivery, the systems will be integrated into the aircraft’s aft fuselage.

The firm’s Milledgeville site also supplies structural components for the Boeing 787, 777, 767 and 747 programmes.

In May 2017, Triumph reached an agreement to support the Boeing’s V-22 Osprey Multiyear 3 contract with US Navy.

Deliveries for the V-22 under the agreement are expected to continue through 2024.

The aircraft features both vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), and short takeoff and landing (STOL) capabilities.

Major operators of the Osprey include the US Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Japan Self-Defense Forces.

The US Navy variant, CMV-22B, is expected to achieve initial operating capability in 2021. The aircraft will deliver combat search-and-rescue, fleet logistics support, and special warfare support to the navy.
