Teledyne FLIR Defense, a division of Teledyne Technologies, has secured a $42.5m contract from the US Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC) for Delivery Order 3 under the Organic Precision Fires-Light (OPF-L) programme.

The agreement involves supplying more than 600 Rogue 1 loitering munition systems, together with ground control stations and training kits.

The US Marine Corps (USMC) will start receiving these systems for field use starting this summer.

The OPF-L programme is designed to provide Marines’ rifle squads and platoons with a man-packable, organic precision strike system capable of engaging adversaries beyond direct line of sight.

Teledyne FLIR’s Rogue 1 system has been tested against moving and stationary armour and dismounted personnel.

Operators have the ability to fit payloads specific to mission requirements or target types.

The Rogue 1 includes an advanced fuzing mechanism that enables the system to be returned safely to its operator if a target is not engaged or if a mission is aborted, allowing for the munition’s reuse.

This feature is intended to reduce the equipment load carried by Marines while providing additional operational flexibility.

The system’s sensors include electro-optical units and FLIR Boson 640+ thermal cameras, supporting reconnaissance and surveillance over long distances in both day and night conditions.

Teledyne FLIR Defense president Dr. JihFen Lei said: “The accuracy and modularity of the Rogue 1 platform will enhance Marine lethality against whatever threats they may encounter in future conflicts.

“We’re honoured to support the OPF-L programme and will continue to work with the Marine Corps to quickly field technology innovations they need to win on the battlefield.”

In April 2024, Teledyne FLIR was among three US autonomous system manufacturers chosen by the US Marine Corps for participation in the OPF-L programme.
