The Spanish Navy is set to take delivery of the first two NH90 tactical transport helicopters, designated as multi-role support transport (MSPT), from Airbus Helicopters.
These helicopters, shipped from Airbus’ Albacete facility, represent the first pair out of a contingent of seven ‘navalised’ NH90s that form part of the second tranche of Spain’s comprehensive NH90 programme, encompassing a total of 23 aircraft.

The NH90 MSPT variant is designed to meet the demanding requirements of the Spanish Navy. It features a reinforced landing gear, naval communication and navigation systems, and automatic folding mechanisms for the rotor blades and tail, which are vital for shipboard operations.
These helicopters can transport up to 20 troops or a light vehicle and can perform single-pilot instrument flight rules operations in challenging conditions.
With this delivery, the NH90 now serves in all branches of the Spanish military.

On 13 May 2025, the Spanish Ministry of Defence and Airbus Helicopters signed an agreement to further expand the NH90 fleet as part of the Spanish National Helicopter Plan.
This framework outlines the continued growth and modernisation of the Armed Forces’ helicopter capabilities.
Designed in two versions – tactical transport and Nato frigate helicopter – the NH90 is built by Europe’s NHIndustries partnership including Airbus Helicopters, Leonardo Helicopters, and Fokker Aerostructures.
