“As Australia’s Collins Class submarine combat system manager, we remain committed to supporting the Royal Australian Navy and industry partners in delivering this vital capability for Australia’s defence.”

Raytheon Australia has provided support for the Collins Class submarine combat system since their entry into service in the mid-1990s.

The majority of Raytheon Australia’s operations are based at Henderson Shipyard and HMAS Stirling in Perth, with additional services coming from Osborne Shipyard in Adelaide and company offices in Sydney.

The scope of work in the combat system management framework contract includes integrating and managing the combat system, providing architectural and design services.

It also covers performing upgrades and updates, carrying out implementation and coordination of the AN/BYG-1 tactical system, and offering technical support at dockside locations and during deployment.

In addition, Raytheon Australia is responsible for procurement activities, warehousing, and freight services as part of its ongoing role.

The RAN’s Collins-class fleet includes six submarines namely HMAS Collins, HMAS Farncomb, HMAS Waller, HMAS Dechaineux, HMAS Sheean, and HMAS Rankin.

These submarines have a displacement of around 3,000 tonnes and can reach speeds above 20 knots (23mph) underwater and 10 knots on the surface.

Each is fitted with six forward torpedo tubes able to carry up to 22 torpedoes or anti-ship missiles, or up to 44 mines as an alternative.
